3pm Sensory/Autism-Friendly Show
WHAT IS A SENSORY/AUTISM-FRIENDLY CONCERT @ 3PM?
As a commitment of the MOB’s direction of being INCLUSIVE & making Handbells accessible to EVERYONE, there will be a 3pm matinee sensory & autism-friendly show, especially for families & persons with special needs. Audience of the matinee show are invited to a sensory-experience at 2pm at the atrium where they will be led through the different sensory “stations” (eg: Touch, Hear, Sight, Feel, Movement, Proprioception), with activities related to the concert (Colouring – Chimes Ringing – Drumming – Sample Music Therapy… etc). This will prepare the minds & senses of the persons with special needs and their families on what to expect later at the concert proper. There will also be a “MASSED RINGING” performance at the foyer by a 250-plus strong combined schools handbell ensemble (SPED & Mainstream). Called the “ROYAL PURPLE HANDBELL ORCHESTRA”, this group of ringers would have met previously, in their schools, for a handbell exchange & learning experience, culminating in this combined massed ring public performance of 2-3 songs.
PRE-SHOW ACTIVITIES (2pm-2.45pm) : Mass Ringing at Front of SOTA (if weather permits)
: Colouring Booth, Hands-On Chimes Ringing, Drumming area
: ASD-Informational Exhibition, Trade Booths
: The Singapore Book of Records LARGEST INCLUSIVE HANDBELL/CHIMES ENSEMBLE will be re-written at 2.15pm on 21 January 2017 at the SOTA Foyer during the pre-show segment.
DURING THE CONCERT @ 3pm: Audience members will be allowed to leave their chairs, stand along aisles and move + dance to the music. Squishies for tactile stimulation and headphones will also be provided. If you have a pair that your child uses, it would be advisable to bring it along. Loud sounds and sudden lighting surprises will be minimized, however if any slightly louder sounds are about to take place, audiences will be given a signal.
Our ushers for this show are Special Education trained, should any emergencies arise, our ushers will handle them appropriately according to detailed protocols. Audience members may also seek their aid should the need arises
“A sensory & autism-friendly performance, uses less provocative lighting effects, lower volume output & shorter 60-75mins performance which allows the persons with special needs to enjoy the show in a safe environment that caters to their senses and their emotions. This show will also allow the audience to “be comfortable & be themselves” & to express themselves freely without fear of disturbing other concert goers. There will also be a calm-down room & an energy space made available for anyone that requires any time-out. Sensory stimulating items will also be made available for the child should they require.”...... (From MOB’9 Sensory-Friendly Handbell Concert in January 2016).
The MOB created this sensory-friendly performance especially to include & accommodate families and persons with special needs, to enjoy an arts performance in a safe and welcoming environment, where they can truly be themselves, and in the presence of other audiences.
This also allows social-integration & learning/understanding of persons with special needs & showcases their ABILITIES & POTENTIALS.
The MOB is a NOT-FOR-PROFIT (Handbell) Arts Organisation.
THIS PROGRAMME IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE TOTE BOARD ARTS GRANT SUBSIDY
Up to 50% for Mainstream Schools.
Up to 70% for SPED Schools.
